078: Is it Yanni, Laurel, Donglegate, or an iPhone With a Case?

with Patrice Brendamour, Ben Roethig

On this episode of Deconstruct, Jerry is trying to make a living in the ultra-expensive land of Hawaii. That leaves Ben and Patrice to do the lamentable job of going over terrible articles in the week before WWDC.

In our first article, the Verge turns a mundane launch of an iPhone cable into a Donglegate rant. In our second article, the Mac Observer sees a new iPhone model in an Apple PR photo. We see a run of the mill iPhone with a case.

076: Easter Fools Day

with Patrice Brendamour, Ben Roethig

On this episode of Deconstruct, Ben did the best disclaimer he’s ever done and forgot to record it! It’s a very special episode since its Easter Fools Day. Yes its both Easter and April Fool’s Day. Ben and Patrice are here while Jerry, is somewhere else.

In our first story, BS Outsider derides the new iPad in favor of Chromebooks. We breakdown the strengths of both devices. In our second article, the Mac Observer pines for the return of the iPad Mini at a $199 price. We answer why this is not likely to happen. In our last article by the Verge, they detail a competitor to Apple’s AirPods, but have no idea how they sound. We wonder if that is rather important for an audio device.

075: Welcome to 2047 Where We Still Can’t Find Jerry

with Patrice Brendamour, Ben Roethig

On this episode of Deconstruct, Jerry is absent without an excuse. That leaves Ben and Patrice to pick up the slack.

In our first article, we critique an article by Jason Snell for Macworld about a MacBook running iOS. Wait a second, did we say that right? In our second story, BS Outsider is who they thought they were writing a whinny opinion piece about the size of the iPhone X.

074: Not Again Jerry! Not Again!'

with Patrice Brendamour, Ben Roethig, Jerome Koehler

On Episode 74, Jerry “misplaced” his local audio so we had to go to the backup audio.

On the bright side, we didn’t loose an episode…. Yes, that means Jerry is actually here joining Ben and Patrice. In our first article, we get our German heritage on while we talk Octoberfest. Unfortunately, its questioning why BGR wrote an article about beer and puke resistant shoes. In our second article, Tech Crunch talks about their first world problems of wanting to upgrade to the iPhone 8 instead of the iPhone X. In the article, Tech Crunch dismisses FaceID before even trying it and longs for old I/O nobody misses.

073: The Conspiracy of the iPhone X Jingle

with Patrice Brendamour, Ben Roethig

With Jerry “Working”, Ben and Patrice tackle all the crap that’s out there.

Ben and Patrice point out that a camera has been on your device the whole time. In our second article, the Verge claims there’s a conspiracy to keep your devices hard to repair to get you to buy a new phone. We explain why the ecosystem is far more complicated.

072: is Anyone Actually Doing Research Anymore?

with Patrice Brendamour, Ben Roethig, Jerome Koehler

On this Deconstruct, Ben, Patrice, and yes even Jerry take on the announcement of the upcoming female 13th Doctor on Doctor Who and vacuums of doom while Ben has no idea what day it is while Patrice’s BMW is holding him hostage. Oh yeah, there’s some some tech stories to talk about as well. In our first story, CoM irresponsibly encourages everyone to try public beta software. We talk about the reasons to this is an incredibly terrible idea and why its not its not the manufacturer’s fault if things do not work. In our second article, TidBits clears up the real story about AgileBits’s One Password and how they are not requiring you to use their cloud service. Lastly, Fortune argues that Apple and Google need their own Prime Day. They fail to realize that neither of them are retailers.

071: Apple is Never Good Enough and Neither are the Article

with Patrice Brendamour, Ben Roethig

On today’s episode, Ben botches the disclaimer to a comical level. Patrice joins him while Jerry takes care of his Pet so he’s not here.

In the first article, Rene Ritchie pens an excellent article that takes on a piece from Josh Toplosky about the iPad as a primary device. We discuss why it can be a primary device for certain users and how iOS 11 tilts things in the iPad’s favor. However, it’s not all great for iMore since we take issue with iMore talking about iOS 12 rumors right after iOS 11 was announced. iMore then defended their clickbait page. Lastly, Macworld’s the Macalope takes on a Market Realist piece calling the Apple Watch a flop because its not the iPhone.

We get down not he complex person that was Steve and why the misbehavior of other execs have nothing to do with him. In our second story, Apple Insider talks about all the time Apple was late to the party. They just happen to include some of Apple’s most successful products.

069: Technical Issues in Our Favor

with Patrice Brendamour, Ben Roethig

On Deconstruct 69: Things are going wrong and it actually helps out Patrice and Ben. Jerry was allegedly sick, but we’re not buying it.

In our first article, Apple Insider pens an opinion piece talking about how and why Apple should be catering to hardcore gamers. We break down how much of this article has nothing to do with PC/ Mac gaming. In our second article, Siri is apparently dying and nobody got the memo. We’re still confused by the article.
